It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to six more T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase exceeding 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to produce her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it was a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," stated Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"A chance to play and lock in a contest with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

By the time she was out Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

Those words will be the last Australia's opponents at this tournament want to hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the initial instance at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she subsequently stated she wished she had played with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
